Volunteer Opportunities – We Need Your Help!

LLI-Manassas is a member-run organization. As such, we depend upon volunteers to fill roles that are critical to our governance and operations. We need your career experience, time and energy in the following roles and committees.

Board of Directors: Provides strategic direction, planning, and decision-making.  We need people experienced with collaborative problem-solving and decision-making, organizational leadership, and a desire to serve.  Our Board meets monthly (generally the fourth Wednesday of each month), and are open to members who wish to visit and become more familiar with our governaning process.  We anticipate several vacancies on the board beginning Spring 2025.

  • Elected by the membership for a 3-year term.
  • Commitment: One meeting per month, plus voluntary time to address action items.

Program Committee: 12-15 energetic people, who identify and recruit potential instructors, propose classes, and serve as class coordinators.  If you have contacts in the community, or attend an educational lecture, interesting tour, or encounter a great speaker on a topical subject — we urge you to approach that person and inquire if they’d be willing to present for LLI.

Commitment: Finding and recruiting instructors is an active, continuous process. Two meetings each spring and each fall, plus time required for coordination of your class(es).

Technical and Media Committee: Set-up and operate A/V equipment for classes, or act as Zoom host for online classes. Manage the the LLI website (assistant webmaster). Assist in managing the LLI database for membership and registration.

  • Skills: Comfortable with setting up and operating basic audio-visual equipment OR good computer skills (Excel; databases; WordPress website management).
  • Commitment: Variable depending on position and your skills. We will train!

Membership and Marketing Committee: Welcome new members (via phone, email, mailing letters; obtain nametags). Assist LLI advertising efforts (distribute flyers, post ads to social media, visit communities). Serve as liaison to LLI partners (NVCC, Hylton Center, NOVEC).

Events Committee: Assist in planning and conducting LLI social events (venue coordination; procuring refreshments; manning sign-in and registration tables; greeting guests).

Finance Committee: Oversee LLI’s financial accounting and fiscal policies. Prepare annual budget; assist with annual audit; make recommendations for investments and insurance.
